What Is Dual Occupancy?
One of the most widely known and well accepted forms of housing in Australia is dual occupancy, especially for people aged sixteen to twenty four. This is because of the fact that individuals find this way of living to be infinitely more comfortable and space saving in certain respects. In fact, this living situation has become a fundamental aspect of government policies that have been set to ensure that residential planning is based on the housing needs and the level of metropolitan improvement required in the country.
To those who have no idea what it’s all about, dual occupancy is a kind of housing arrangement where two houses or dwellings are located on a sole block of land. They both occupy the entire block of land. This housing arrangement isn’t only suitable for duplexes but it’s also common for granny flats, small dual townhouse developments and rural blocks with two separate residences on it.
It can’t be denied however, that the duplex is still the most popular mode of dual occupancy. A duplex is suitable for this kind of occupancy as there are two units of residence on a single lot. Duplexes are described as two houses that are built together with one common wall. In many ways, they are like a large house that is symmetrically split into two parts so that it can be occupied by separate or different groups of people.
A few people believe that dual occupancy makes for an extremely diminutive experience crammed with people when in actual fact, it’s not. In fact, there are quite a few places that have wide spaces and enough room for more than one person. Whilst you have your run of the mill types with three or four bedrooms there are other dwellings that are spacious enough to house two separate study areas. This contemporary style of housing makes the most of the space that is available. This in turn allows the residents to maximize the space and the lighting in and around their homes.
However, changes have happened over the course of a few years to the occupancy situation. These changes have affected people who are planning on or are currently living in the two occupancy residence. As a result, people who live in this style of accommodation, have felt under fire and have been greatly affected. This has been the result of the mandate in the law that has made this type of housing development costly.
Nevertheless, the good news is that this hasn’t drastically affected the number of people who choose to live in duplexes, granny flats or townhouses. Studies have shown that around forty percent of all people living in dual occupancy homes are also the owners of such homes. Almost eighteen percent of all of these people are young couples who have children under eighteen. A further twenty nine percent of these couples have no children. Contemporary double housing remains the best choice for the younger generations.
